Data recovery stories - did you do this?
Posted: Tue, 11 Dec 2007 22:44 pm
Computerworld Australia just published an interesting article about data disasters of computer disks.

One woman washed her thumb drive in a washing machine trying to wash her data away. She couldn't retrieve any data from it.

A British scientist was fed up with the way his hard drive was squeaking, so he drilled a hole through the casing and poured oil into the hard disk

A photographer in Thailand discovered that his external hard drive became the home of ants,
he took the cover off his computer and sprayed the interior with insect repellent. The ants didn't make it,
and neither did the hard drive.

Being an old computer tech, I have seen and heard some funny things. One guy came in with his drive that had been completely pulled apart with a hammer and asked if we could fix it. I looked at him and shook my head as I dropped the drive into the bin. He actually though we could just replace the casing

He wasn't happy as he'd lost all his data. We did ask him why he belted it with a hammer and he said it was noisy and he thought there was something in there...

Laughing become very infectious as even he started to have a good laugh about how stupid he was OOPS!!!
